THIS WEEKEND Dec 4- Dec 6, Rixdorfer Weihnachtsmarkt

The traditional Rixdorfer Christmas market will take place this weekend!
An event which is well known by Berliners of all other neigborhoods because it preserves a lot of the genuine, non-commercial , atmosphere of a traditional "Weihnachtsmarkt" (Christmas market) since 37 years.

The Richarplatz (Richard square), together with the Körnerpark, is one of the most beautiful hidden corners of Neukölln and the center of the Rixdorf also known as the Bohemian Village (Böhmisches Dorf) or Richardsdorf.

Founded in 1360 as a village of its own, the Rixdorf was considered the "biggest village outside Berlin" in 1869. Around 1907 it grew into a city which was then "swallowed" by Berlins rapid extension, and has become part of Berlins neighborhood of Neukölln.
Snou´s atelier @ "el nido" is just around the corner and will open its doors as well.

Opening times
Fr. Dec 4th 17:00 -21:00 Uhr
Sa. Dec 5th 14:00 -21:00 Uhr
Sun. Dec 6th 14:00 -20:00 Uhr

The new workshop

7 days in Berlin

The project 7 Days is a work in progress, which is also an artwork. Each day, one artwork is added to the exhibition, and it is linked with the others within a creative dialog, so that the result can also be seen as a Gesamtkunstwerk.

The main subject is the 7 days of the creation of the world. Each artist develops his work based on the following concepts:

Day 1: Light and darkness

Day 2: Sky, water and horizon

Day 3: Earth and vegetation

Day 4: Stars, sun and moon

Day 5: Animals, sea and air

Day 6: Human being

Day 7: End of the Creation, rest

Walking theGrey area

http://www.grayareasymposium.org/blog/

The Otro Diseno Foundation for Cultural Cooperation and Development, the agency Design Flux and Galeria La Refaccionaria, Mexico, are honored to present you our new joint project: Walking the Gray Area.

Walking the Gray Area is a collective exhibition curated by Valeria Siemelink and Andrea Wagner, that brings together 20 Latin American and 20 European jewellery makers and artists who ocationally work with jewellery as a medium, into a dialogue about jewellery, global mobility, contemporary identities and its personal and/or collective implications. The curators of Walking the Gray Area, have each selected 20 artists from their respective continents: Latin America and Europe. Each artist has a unique approach to jewellery: different perspectives of art and jewellery, differnt ideas, different interests, different materials and techniques, different countries. But all artists have one thing in common: like the curators themselves, they have experienced the phenomena of global mobility in one or another way: born in one place, lived, studied, worked in another one.

The artists have randomly paired: one Latin American artist has been coupled with one European artist. Each pair will start a dialogue, through a web blog that has been created for this purpose, in the ways they find interesting or relevant: they are able to exchange conversations, stories, pictures, images and even materials. The dialogue can be verbal, visual of both and will lead to the creation of one body ornament by artist.

We invite you to visit the blog, moderated by the Mexican art critic Jose Manuel Springer, which will walk you through the process of creating an exhibition from the scratch and allow you to interact with the artists and moderator.

The exhibition will be presented within the frame of the symposium Gray Area, Ist Encounter of Contemporary Jewellery between Latin America and Europe, to take place from April 12th to 16th in Mexico City. The opening date of the exhibition, at the fabulous Galeria La Refaccionaria, in Mexico City's historic Centre will be announced in the following months.

We hope that you will enjoy the experience and that you will walk along with us towards this amazing exhibition. Visit the Walking the Gray Area Blog at:

Cadavre Exquis 2

This is the second time that I make this small "experiment", this time achieving amazing results. It might seem too bad that there wasn´t enough space to end this story, BUT I think the open end gives each one of us a chance to imagine what happened next. Please do comment with your suggestions!
I wish to thank all of those who participated, putting heart, soul and creativity into your contribution. and do not worry, The Cadavre Exquis will most surely visit again soon, bringing new adventures for our imagination!!!

Wondering why the images are soooo small ? Click on them to zoom in to a readable size!

Then I wrote something approximately like :
She turns around and sees him as well. Suddenly a spark transports her memory to another place. She remembers a tree in the distance, a butterfly in the air, happy times...

I am sorry to say that I couldn´t record the last comment. But then again this story is never over! Please comment and thanks!

Cadavre Exquis

A lot of you have probably played "cadavre exquis" ( exquisite corpse or cadaver exquisito) . With images or sentences, you would pass around a folded paper where you could only see the contribution of the last participant based on which you could make your own contribution. In the end you would get a quite funny and absurd story or picture.
I made the experiment of making an open cadavre exquis using a treasury list. The treasury format is optimal. The images of the list help to give some inspiration, the comment thread has the same qualities of the traditional paper, except it is open , everyone can read all the previous contributions. And nevetheless some magical things happen. Just read:

Thank you all for putting your bit of creativity into this wonderful story!!

Mod3rnart´s istudio: a peek into the workshops of creative people

I was invited to participate in a Blog project called istudio created by Mod3rnart.

Its creator describes the origin to the idea: "...
its birth came from me being interested in where (studio/workshop) artists create their pieces. I want to create a sort of canvas of pictures from all over the world."

Mod3rnart are two young artists from Corfu, Greece (!) whom enjoy making beautiful items and sharing them with the world, as they say themselves.

So I took a look at istudio and loved it!!!

It is like having a key to the workshop of artists, no matter how far apart they are. And even if it is just a small peek, you know that an image speaks more than a thousand words.

It does satisfy the little voyeur in me.
I love getting a peek behind "the curtains" and into the workshops. Usually I think, wow! how can they keep their work spaces so tidy!!!! and organized!!!! did they clean up for the picture??did they always hve such wonderful organized spaces? Were they born with it?!!! (LOVED the before and after picture of Nadine Bozek).

It just gives you a more human idea of the people and places behind a "product",
it adds to its story and to its aura in a
Walter Benjamin sort of way.

When you see a workshop you see more clearly that what comes out of this place was made by a person, lovingly sitting in front of a worktable,
making decisions with eye and heart.

And you realize how different this is than having something that came out of a maschine for the thousandth time. And finally you come to the difference between a product and a piece, an item and a
work of art! And, of course, it inspires me to be more organized in the future!!!
